Dementia Training Course Outline
Dementia is an umbrella term for a number of progressive conditions which may affect memory, thinking, problem-solving, language, and possibly mood and behaviour.
It’s important to set out early that everyone will experience dementia differently. It will depend on the cause and on which parts of the brain are affected as the condition progresses. And, of course, an individuals own personality and circumstances contribute as well.
Our Dementia Training for caregivers course begins with this in mind and will help delegates to understand and support someone recently diagnosed with dementia.
Our Dementia Training course is designed and delivered to develop the knowledge and skills required by attendees to respond to individuals displaying distressed behaviour with respect and empathy.
We’ll talk through some of the recognisable behaviours and their triggers, and how to respond to them. Importantly, delegates will explore how to communicate effectively and appropriately to provide the correct support to individuals with dementia.
We also discuss the importance of families and carers as partners in an individuals dementia care to help with consistency and promoting independence from the individual living with dementia.
This course is a good companion course to our Mental Capacity Act For Supervisors for delegates in that position dealing with Dementia.
